June 2025 Newsletter
Fellow Elks, The month of May seemed to have been packed full of events and very busy. I hope everyone had a good time at the PER ball. A big thank you to Shelly Hinshaw and Kathy Crabtree (and everyone who helped) for the decorations. It is now June and I want to make sure everyone is aware of our upcoming events. Flag Day is on Saturday June 14th. As the majority of our members have not had the opportunity to be a part of this special ritual. We invite you to attend! The ceremony honoring our country’s flag will begin at 5pm. Also, Saturday, June 21st will be our annual Golf Outing with proceeds benefiting cancer research in Indiana. The Elk’s have proudly supported Cancer research and by partnering with Indiana University and Purdue University, we have helped in the endeavor to find new treatments for cancer. Here are some quick facts about the Elk’s partnership with Cancer research in our State. *Indiana Elks Charities, Inc. was formed in the mid 1940’s to administer the Indiana State Major Project which is to fight the various dreaded cancer diseases that strike hundreds of Indiana Hoosiers each year. The State of Indiana is indeed fortunate to have two major cancer research facilities which are located at Purdue University and Indiana University. Both institutions have since become the recipients of Indiana Elkdom’s generous fundraising efforts. *Long before the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center was founded in 1992, the Indiana Elks Association was generously funding cancer research at the IU School of Medicine. *In the past 75 years, Elks lodges from communities all over the State have worked together on their “state major project” to generate more than $5 million for cancer research at IU. *Both institutions are recipients of Indiana Elks fundraising efforts and combined contributions now total in excess of $10 Million Once again, the front porch looks great with the flowers donated by L&K farms. Also, our volunteers did a great job with the mulch and flower beds. Your time and hard work is appreciated. Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that our lodge wouldn’t be what it is without our staff. I want to thank all of our kitchen staff, along with our waitresses, bartenders and our janitor. Thank you for all of your hard work. Paul Groce Exalted Ruler |
